Within March-July 2014, 10 journalists from various media institutions of Chisinau, Ialoveni, Comrat, Ciadir-Lunga, Bender and Tiraspol have drawn up joint materials within a project, implemented by the Independent Journalism Centre (IJC).
Journalists were encouraged to reflect the topic of minority groups and of those socially vulnerable from both banks of Nistru river. Thus, they have written journalistic materials, addressing various aspects related to inclusive education, social integration of people living with HIV, the problems faced by people with visual impairments, etc.
„This is my first time participating in such a project. Thanks to this project, I have learned how to write journalistic materials properly, in which I present the story of some disabled people, warts and all”, Ecaterina Petcovici, editor of the newspaper „Znamea” of Ciadir-Lunga, said.
„The experience gained is very valuable for me, it will help me in my future journalistic activity. Also, I managed to establish contacts with journalists from the region of ATU Gagauz-Yeri, a cooperation that I hope will be lasting in other similar projects”, Irina Koloidenco, journalist from Tiraspol, says.
The component of joint materials was launched by IJC, following a training program, during which journalists were professionally trained to reflect the topic of minority groups and of those socially vulnerable. Through this activity, IJC aims to encourage and strengthen cooperation between journalists from both banks of Nistru river.
This activity has been carried out within the project „Promoting the rights of minorities and marginalized groups in the Transnistrian region and ATU Gagauz-Yeri through media”, implemented by IJC, with the financial support of the Swedish organization Civil Rights Defenders, partner of IJC.
