The jury of the national competition of articles/reports and shows focused on human rights in Moldova designated winners on Friday, September 30. They are Eugenia Pogor from Radio Free Europe, who got 1,032 points, and Natalia Porubin from the Center of Journalistic Investigations, with 994 points. The competition had been organized by the Association of Independent Press (AIP) and the Independent Journalism Center (IJC) and took place in the period of March-September 2016.

The competition was aimed at highlighting the best materials about fulfillment of commitments taken by authorities as part of an international mechanism – the Universal Periodic Review (UPR). Representatives of all media outlets in the country were invited to participate. Overall, 12 journalists from radio, television, newspapers, information portals and regional media registered, and they presented 30 journalistic materials to the jury.

Media Azi asked journalist Gheorghe Budeanu, a member of the jury, to comment on competition results, and he said: “All articles were good and it was difficult to make a choice. The jury members’ opinion was correct, as the two winners fully complied with the conditions of the competition.”

Organizers announced from the start that two winners would be chosen and that the prize will consist in a visit to Geneva, where the two journalists will participate this autumn in the session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, where Moldovan authorities are to present their report on realization of UPR recommendations.
