Local and National Journalists Learned How to Diversify the Content with the Help of Media Tools

What kind of media tools exist and when can we use them? What are the newest content formats and the most appropriate techniques to attract the attention of readers? – These, as well as other topics were discussed during a three-day training session organised by the Independent Journalism Center, which was held in Chisinau on the 29 and 31 March. National and local partners of the project entitled ‘Strengthening Independent Media in Europe and Eurasia’ attended the event.

The first two days of the training were carried out by the Russian experts Andrei Misiurev and Olga Kuzina. The two guests presented to the participants several multimedia platforms and tools that can help them make their journalistic materials more attractive to readers. In their turn, the participants who attended the training had the opportunity to practice some of these tools, They applied them when working with multimedia material, trying to improve it with the help of the suggestions from colleagues and trainers. At the same time, those present had the opportunity to learn details from the backstage of the editorial of Семь на семь [7x7] following the Skype intervention of the publisher of this platform, Maxim Poleacov. After he presented several aspects of the site's activity, journalists asked some questions about the multimedia content.

During the third day of the training, local partners worked with Ana Gherciu, editor chief at Moldova.org, who spoke to them about how to structure the information on a site in order to maintain the faithful audience and to determine readers to come back. At the same time, the journalist provided to the participants several plugin recommendations and easy to use and free tools to create a diverse and interactive multimedia content and facilitate their daily work.

Tatiana Mitrofan, journalist at ‘Observatorul de Nord’’ newspaper [lit. Northern Observer], says the theoretical information and practical activities have been very useful to her. ‘Our editorial staff tends to provide quality and visually attractive information to readers. Thus, the recommended plugins and the tools with that we will use to create more multimedia elements will help us get our way. We hope this will attract more readers on our site, who will remain faithful to us.’

Another journalist, Vitalie Hotnogu from ‘Ziua de Azi’ newspaper [lit. Today's Day], says that attending this workshop helped him to learn other approaches in presenting the information to readers by using interactive tools and techniques. ‘We want to use them both to create multimedia materials and other types of content, different of the that we work with everyday,’ says Vitalie.   

The project entitled ‘Strengthening Independent Media in Europe and Eurasia’ is implemented by the Independent Journalism Center n partnership with Internews during the period between October 2018 and September 2020.
