Media monitoring reports related to the recent elections highlight a number of irregularities admitted in the campaign coverage, such as favouring or disfavouring some candidates, lack of competitors’ equal access to broadcasters, promoting hate speech and discrimination in the media.

What should be done for such ethical and legal violations not to be perpetuated in the autumn parliamentary elections? The issue is addressed within the 79th edition of Media Azi talk-show by Nadine Gogu, director of the Independent Journalism Centre, and her guests Dorina Curnic, member of the Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC), and Olga Manole, program coordinator at Promo-LEX Association, member of the Press Council.

One can learn from the show why fake news or denigrating information posted on some suspicious websites are taken over and broadcasted by trusted media outlets. Why the Broadcasting Coordination Council does not issue timely notifications when such cases occur and what is the impact of the late penalties applied to some TV stations? One can also find out how, as per show participants’ opinions, these typical media mistakes, recurring from campaign to campaign, could be removed.
