In April 2014, the Independent Journalism Center (IJC), in partnership with Radio Free Europe, launches a new project oriented towards the media consumers. The aim of the project is to contribute to the consolidation of democracy by educating the critical thinking of young people in the Republic of Moldova.
IJC will organize visits to various universities and high schools throughout the country during which the journalists from Radio Free Europe will engage in discussions with students and pupils about the role of the press in the society. Furthermore, the experts will give examples of professional and unprofessional journalism in several study cases.
In addition to the study cases, the project beneficiaries will have the possibility to watch and to analyze along with the experts a number of video spots produced by the IJC on several topics, such as: the quality of media products, the access to information and the freedom of expression.
In the framework of the project, the IJC will train high school teachers who will be able to initiate and carry out themselves activities on media literacy in their institutions.
Study cases and more information about the project are available on the IJC portal Media Azi (www.media-azi.md).
The project "Promoting media literacy among Moldovan citizens" is implemented by the IJC between March 2013 and April 2014 with the financial support of the United States Embassy in Moldova.
