The third Media Azi broadcast referred to the challenges of investigative journalists. Host Dumitru Lazur and his guests, journalist Ion Preasca and lawyer Tatiana Puiu, opened the discussion with Panama Papers, which are, according to Dumitru Lazur, “the nightmare of compromised politicians and businessmen, who hid their properties in offshore zones.”

For over a year, 380 journalists from 78 countries, including Moldova, analyzed and filtered these papers before publishing them. Among them were journalists from RISE Moldova, who made investigations about Moldovans’ offshore companies by using datasets from Panama.

The broadcast also tells about massive leaks of information, anonymous sources and personal data, as well as about the principles and editorial standards that the RISE team followed when they studied these materials. In it, you can also find useful information about ECHR judgments and about the national legislation regarding protection of journalistic sources and personal data.

The first two Media Azi broadcasts covered topics related to press freedom in Moldova and media concentration. The broadcast appears weekly and it is produced by the campaigns and publications department of the Independent Journalism Center.
