On Sunday, August 9, 2020, the Independent Journalism Center named the winners of the sixth edition of the Fifth Power Media Hackathon with the theme Media Literacy: Analyze, Raise Awareness, Create. In the three days of competition, between August 7 and 9, 2020, nine teams had the mission to develop applications and tools that will contribute to the development of students' critical thinking skills.

The four winning teams are:
  1. Evrica – a platform that aims to develop the critical thinking of students and teachers through games, quizzes, and exercises.
  2. PRIMUS – an online game for generation Z, which will supplement the content of Media Education lessons.
  3. Tinerii Abraziv Online – an educational series that will explain the topics from Media Education textbooks in a form accessible to students.
  4. Between the Lines – an interactive application for teachers.

The teams were awarded $ 4,250 each. In the coming months, the projects will be finalized and officially launched to the general public. Subsequently, teachers will be able to use the applications at Media Education lessons.

The members of the jury appreciated the ideas entered in the competition. “All the ideas were original and could make the Media Education course even more attractive, but only four teams can be awarded,” said Valentin Croitoru, Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator at Internews in Moldova.
