The schools from Crasnaseni and Vasieni in Telenesti district completed the list of education institutions visited by the Centre for Independent Journalism (CJI) within the media education initiative.
Thus, a group of pupils participated in such lesson on Tuesday, November 24, with  the reporter Petru Cosoi www.realitatea.md as the media guide. The journalist provided general information about how media system works and some detailed information about what the news is in terms of the journalism genre, how it is written and how important it is for the news author to be objective and well-documented. “A journalist must use at least two sources, especially if one of them is addressed in a negative context”, the reporter told the pupils. Also , this type of press genre must have an accessible language and answer the questions: Who? What? Where? When? How? Why? For what?
In the second part of the meeting, the discussions were focused on manipulation by means of media. The young people learned how to detect this phenomenon and what the manipulation techniques are. Based on some sequences from TV reports, the pupils admitted that sometimes it is very difficult to identify the manipulation. Certain gestures of the reporter or the expression of his/her own opinion are sufficient to mislead the audience.
In conclusion, the participants mentioned they would analyse the news they consume daily and that they would seek more information from various media sources, so as to avoid manipulation. Iuliana Zelenco, a pupil in Crasnaseni Gymnasium, told us that she would know how to make the difference between a genuine and an incorrect news that does not answer the mandatory questions. Zinaida Arnaut, pupil in Vasieni Gymnasium says that the lesson of media education helped her understand why the news sometimes use manipulation techniques - because certain political or economic persons are interested in promotion of their own interests by means of media.
