Journalist Nicolae Negru and Secretary General of the Moldova-Romania Advisory Council on the Media Vlad Turcanu discussed in this week’s Media Azi broadcast about the creation of the common information space of Moldova and Romania.

What is the common information space? Does it mean only extension of the Romanian, European space to Moldova, or the reverse process, too, i.e. extension of our space to Romania and the EU? Is this project viable? And, not the least important, how will ethnic minorities be able to integrate in it, especially citizens who don’t speak Romanian? Won’t they see in the common information space some kind of camouflaged pro-union project?

Nicolae Negru’s interlocutor gave well-reasoned, explicit, and convincing answers to these and other questions. According to Vlad Turcanu, creation of the common information space is necessary to ensure the “circulation of ideas.” “We created this platform in order to share ideas, first among journalists and then among citizens, institutions, companies. We found that Moldovan and Romanian journalists have different approaches in this aspect, too. This platform is necessary in order to unite our positions – if we have no such discussions, we might eventually find that we are so different that we are no longer interested in what others do”, said the Secretary General of the Moldova-Romania Advisory Council on the Media.

As for the Moldovan citizens who don’t speak Romanian yet, Vlad Turcanu believes that they will also be able to fit into what we call European spirit. “There will definitely be programs in the Russian language”, Vlad Turcanu added.

The Media Azi broadcast is produced by the Independent Journalism Center and can be watched on such portals as Media Azi, Mediacritica, and YouTube.
