Students from 10 Schools Presented Media Projects Implemented with IJC Support

Thirty students and ten teachers met again on Saturday, November 11, in Chisinau in order to share their experience of implementing media projects in their schools. The projects were a continuation of the activities conducted at the “Filter Information” summer camp, organized between August 20 and 26, at the end of which participating teams received small grants of EUR 300 from the Independent Journalism Center (IJC). Three students and one teacher from the 10 schools conducted activities for their colleagues, through which they promoted media literacy and rational consumption of information from the media.

Activities performed by students included flash mobs, discussion clubs, peer training, competitions, creation of a media club in Ungheni city, information materials, film viewing, etc. Teachers, in their turn, organized information sessions for fellow teachers and for parents, as well as homeroom hours for students.

Each team presented the activities it had conducted, the resources used, the results obtained, the lessons learned, and the experience gathered in the two months. All schools, supported by their administrations, want to continue their projects and to apply for new grants opportunities to develop them.

Participants mentioned that the implementation of these projects allowed them to assert themselves, gain new competences and abilities, become more aware of the information they consume, become more confident, and overcome the fear of public speaking. At the same time, they learned how to manage a project, from its writing to implementing all stages.

The activity was organized by the Independent Journalism Center in collaboration with Internews and with the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency through the Embassy of Sweden in Chisinau.
