“The media NGOs from the Transnistrian region have to continue the civil society development and consolidation by promoting the civil rights and freedoms, civic journalism, online media and the public dialogue culture" – this is one of the conclusions of the “NGO media sector in the Transnistrian region: reality and development perspectives” study.

The research was launched by the Independent Journalism Center (IJC) on October 8, within an event organized in Tiraspol. The activity is part of the project “Promoting media freedom in Transnistrian region through strengthening the civil society sector”.

“Till now, the NGO media sector, one of the most important fields, has not yet been researched. This study shows us at which stage we currently are, how we can develop this sector and what actions we need to take concerning this issue”, mentioned Natalia Scurtul, journalist in Tiraspol.

“The organizations and associations whose fields of activity are the freedom of expression and media had some progress in their development, but they still need support from the international partners. Also, the journalists in the Transnistrian region have to cooperate, in order to make their work easier”, considers Ruslan Mihalevschi, the author of the study.

For writing the study, several representatives of the NGOs and journalists from the Transnistrian region have been interviewed.
