The former President of Moldova and the leader of the Party of Communists (PCRM), Vladimir Voronin, threatened representatives of Publika TV channel during a press conference today. He accused the TV channel of carrying out a negative and manipulative coverage of the party's activities.
During the press conference, Voronin said that Publika TV was owned by mafia. “You are a channel bought by mafia and are the exhibitors (i.e. representatives) of mafia, your programs are always based on semi-lawless actions,” he said.
Afterwards, the communist leader took his threats even further: “We will block you from all sides. You will have problems. You will be blocked in a democratic, civilized and fair way. By us and our forces, our young people, our everything. And should you mention a lying word about the communists – then you will have serious problems,” Voronin told a Publika TV reporter during the press conference.
On Monday, the TV channel's representatives announced they appealed to the General Prosecutor’s Office with the request to punish MP Iurie Muntean for his attacks against journalist Dumitrita Ciuvaga. The TV Channel also announced that it ceases coverage of PCRM activities until party leaders publicly apologize for the constant attacks against media professionals.
