On Tuesday, 14 July, the Broadcasting Coordinating Council (BCC) announced the results of the contest organized to select proposals of broadcast programs on issues of public interest. The BCC members were disappointed with the projects presented for the contest, but eventually decided to allocate about 1.6 million lei from the Broadcasters’ Support Fund to finance 17 TV and radio projects of 14 local broadcasters.

According to BCC Chairman Dinu Ciocan, the broadcasters that participated in the contest have many years of experience. “We expected a better performance and more projects on the topics we suggested – promotion of European values, programs with/about/for persons with disabilities, programs with/about/for national minorities. Unfortunately, we saw a low level in the presented programs and too few creative and original ideas,” Dinu Ciocanu told us.

17 local broadcasters participated in the contest and presented 23 projects. Out of them, the projects of the public company “Gagauziya Radio Televizionu” (GRT) and of the “Megan-TV” SA were excluded from the contest because their representatives were absent at the meeting. Another project – presented by “ML-COM” SRL – was not accepted because that broadcaster had already received financial support from the Fund earlier this year.

Referring to GRT, Dinu Ciocan also said that “the submitted documents did not meet all the requirements of the contest – they were not sealed and signed by the current president of the institution.” The BCC chairman mentioned that these faults were caused by the internal dissensions at GRT, but that they do not fall under the competence of the BCC.

The media projects selected for funding in 2015 are programs in Gagauz, Bulgarian and Romani languages; programs aimed at persons with disabilities; projects on topics of culture, values and popular customs; series of programs promoting European values; programs about health, sports, etc. They will be subsidized according to the number of programs and amount of airtime.
