The film “Generation Emigration”, part of the series “Pur şi Simplu” (“Just Simply”), produced by Radio Free Europe (Natalia Sergheev, journalist; Alex Blumberg, producer and video operator) won the First Prize in Youth category at the contest for 2016 Media ADAMI Prize. The award gala took place on 24th of November in Kiev.
The film highlights the phenomenon of migration faced by the Republic of Moldova, telling the stories of three young people who had to leave their low-paid jobs they had in their country and go abroad in search of a better life.
208 works submitted by filmmakers, journalists and audio-visual media professionals from the Eastern Partnership (EP) countries were overall evaluated in the framework of the current edition of ADAMI Media Prize.
The team of Moldova 1 public TV station broadcast the event live. It is worth being noted that the journalists of Moldova 1 took an active part in the event. Moldova 1 Director, Mircea Surdu, handed out the ADAMI Media Online Prize (awarded to the representative of Georgia); the general producer of Moldova 1, Leonid Melnic, chaired the jury of TV and News section; and the presenter of the show “Who comes to us?”, Gloria Gorceag, was one of the three moderators of 2016 ADAMI Media Prize Gala.
Last year, the public TV station has awarded the third prize in this contest for the film “Acasă în Marienfeld” (“Home to Marienfeld”), produced in collaboration with Deutsche Welle.
This year gala of ADAMI Awards was held under the patronage of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Thorbjørn Jagland and of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Dunja Mijatović. The ADAMI Prizes are open to the six EP countries - Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine - and they reward the outstanding TV, film and online programmes which deal with the issues of integration and migration, encouraging the ethnic, religious and cultural diversity.
