BCC Issues Fines for Lack of Discipline

TV Rain, Afilm, RTR Moldova and Radio 7 broadcasters will receive a MDL 5,000 fine for failure to submit in due time the activity reports for the year 2016, while MBC TV channel and Datina FM radio station have three days to send in such reports. Such a decision was made by the Broadcasting Coordinating Council (BCC) at its meeting that on 8 June 2017.  

The penalties were issued according to the new amendments to the Broadcasting Code that stipulate fines ranging from MDL 5,000 to MDL 10,000 for the failure to send in, before 1 March of each year, the annual activity reports and TV shows retransmission service contracts. Due to the fact that the amendments were enforced on 14 April 2017, this year the broadcasters had to send in activity reports by 1 May.

The same penalties will apply to broadcasters for violations, such as the refusal to provide to the Broadcasting Coordinating Council the recordings of program services, failure to send in the contracts signed with the holders of copyright and related rights, illegal use of signals and/or logo of another broadcaster, etc.
