The BC’s Monitoring Department found that the show lacked an opinion of the featured person. This person – Elena Comendant, complained to the BC and demanded it to sanction journalists since according to her the show guests denigrated her name, reputation and her quality of coach and secretary of the Gymnastics and Rhythmics Union during the show. The petitioner considered that the journalist allowed the guests to bring unsubstantiated accusations in her absence.
After analysing the issue, the Monitoring Department found that the broadcaster violated Article 13(6)(a) of the Audiovisual Media Services Code about ‘ensuring impartiality, balance and promotion of the free formation of opinions by presenting the main points of view in opposition, during a public debate about certain issues’.
General Manager of Vocea Basarabiei Mihai Burciu, present at the meeting, motivated these violations by the fact that journalists have looked for and could not find Elena Comendant for the coverage they did about school problems. Burciu also said that Comendant did not address the TV channel directly to be granted her right to reply.
Eight members of the BC voted in favour of sanctioning and the Council member Corneliu Mihalache was against the warning.
