The Broadcasting Coordinating Council (BCC) decided on Tuesday, October 17, to monitor televisions in terms of compliance with broadcasting legislation during the campaign for the local referendum on the dismissal of Chisinau’s general mayor.

The BCC decided to monitor 12 televisions: Moldova 1, Prime, RTR Moldova, Canal 3, Publika TV, PRO TV Chișinău, Jurnal TV, Accent TV, NTV Moldova, TV 8, ITV Moldova, Ren TV Moldova.

The list of televisions proposed for monitoring initially included Canal 2 as well, but it has been replaced by RTR Moldova.

During debates, BCC member Olga Gututui asked why RTR Moldova was not included into the above list from the very beginning. Elena Crismaru, head of the TV Monitoring department, explained that the broadcasting regulator can monitor a maximum of 12 televisions. According to her, RTR Moldova was not included into the initial list because it releases short newscasts, of about 10-15 minutes.

Thus, at the proposal of the BCC, television station Canal 2 was removed from the list and replaced with RTR Moldova.

Monitoring will be conducted in accordance with the Concept on the coverage of the local referendum campaign, developed by the BCC, and it will begin after the BCC decision is published in the Official Gazette.
