Ala Ursu-Antoci has become the new president of the Broadcasting Council

Manole noted she has no right to say how any particular member voted, because the vote was secret. She added that, so far, only Dragos Vicol announced his resignation from the position of the BC president. Dragos Vicol remains a member with the right to vote, for the time being.

Ala Ursu-Antoci was previously the head of the cabinet of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) faction in the Parliament and a teacher at the College of Ecology. From 2015 to 2019, she was a counselor in the office of the president of the PSRM faction. She also ranked 43^rd in the list of electoral competitors in the national electoral district for the 2019 parliamentary elections.

Ala Ursu-Antoci was appointed as a member of the BC, along with Larisa Manole and Ion Robu, in July 2020. The opposition then declared that the competition was vitiated by the then parliamentary majority of the Democratic Party and PSRM. Media Azi previously wrote about the fact that the appointment of new BC members was preceded by accusations in the Parliament.

Dragos Vicol’s resignation was preceded by the announcement of the Socialist MPs about a draft law by which the legal mandates of the BC president and members who were appointed between January 20, 2016 and June 7, 2019, the period of government under the former Democratic leader Vlad Plahotniuc, could end prematurely, if the document is approved.
