On Monday, 9 December, the Broadcasting Council fined the television broadcaster Jurnal TV with MDL 10,000, following a petition submitted by a citizen who complained that TV channel broadcast a show containing indecent language. At the same meeting, the BC members rejected two complaints against Publika TV and voted, by the majority vote, against this broadcaster and NTV Moldova being fined for violations committed during the recent election campaign.

Citizen Alexei Mandru submitted a complaint to the BC, stating that Jurnal TV broadcast a show containing indecent language. BC requested information from Jurnal TV, which the latter did not provide, so the television broadcaster was fined with MDL 10,000. The Council member Corneliu Mihalache criticised the broadcaster for ‘defying’ BC.

The BC members also reviewed two complaints against Publika TV – one submitted by the leader of the Dignity and Truth Platform Andrei Nastase and another by lawyer Viorel Berliba, who accused the broadcaster of disseminating slanderous and untrue information about them. The BC members qualified these requests as unfounded.

Also on Monday, BC members also commented on the report on television broadcasters monitored during the election campaign, which was presented at the previous meeting.

BC members Lidia Viziru and Tatiana Buraga opted for fining NTV Moldova and Publika TV, which committed the most violations. On the other hand, other members of the Council, including the Chair Dragos Vicol, considered the violations to be minor, so that no television broadcaster was fined.
