The investigative journalists and non-governmental organisations of the Republic of Moldova express their concern about the more frequent cases of intimidation of the journalists who conduct well-documented investigations on topics of public interest and of blocking the access to information, as a result of the erroneous and abusive interpretation of the Law on the protection of personal data.

In solidarity with their colleagues who conduct professional journalistic investigations, the non-governmental organizations have launched a campaign to support the investigative journalism and the access to information. A range of activities, including press club meetings, a conference with the participation of local and foreign experts, etc. will be held during this campaign. All media outlets are encouraged to participate in the campaign and to publish the attached banner.

At the same time, the public authorities are called upon to reasonably interpret and enforce the Law on the protection of personal data, in compliance with the European standards.
