“Media outlets, civil society and public authorities are called to actively engage into promotion of Moldova’s European integration and into informing all citizens about the advantages and challenges of the European course,” says a declaration signed in Chisinau today, 30 June, by fifty civil society organizations.

Starting from the idea that the country’s preparation for accession to the European Union “represents a confluence of efforts made by all political, social, economic and cultural forces of the entire Moldovan society,” the signatories are calling the civil society to consolidate around a national idea.

To support this objective, the signatories have launched the civil society platform “For Europe”, which is open for all those who share European values and ideals.

Signatories mention that they will support the efforts of public institutions, non-governmental organizations and other society representatives in reaching the European objective, and will monitor the implementation by authorities of the commitments assumed under the Association Agreement between Moldova and the European Union.

“We believe that the priority now consists in speeding up reforms to consolidate the rule of law, ensure supremacy of law, fight corruption, promote political pluralism and free elections, observe human rights and fundamental freedoms, improve the safety of the person and family, build a tolerant society, ensure stability and sustainable economic development,” the declaration says.

Signatories are asking the Parliament of Moldova to immediately ratify the Association Agreement between Moldova and the European Union and to make all efforts to obtain the status of country-candidate for membership.
