The first digital multiplex, which provides national coverage for 15 TV channels, was launched in Moldova on Tuesday, November 1, 2016, according to a press release of the Ministry of Information Technology and Communications.

Multiplex A covers up to 80% of the population, and at the first stage includes 8 TV programs in terrestrial digital broadcasting format, following the contracts signed with “Radiocomunicații” State Enterprise: Moldova 1, Prime TV, TVR Moldova, Canal 2, Canal 3, Publika TV, N4, Accent TV. Other 7 broadcasters with licenses in Multiplex A – Agro TV, Jurnal TV, TV 7, ITV, Regional TV, Super TV and CTC – are to be included into the package immediately after they sign service contracts and a source of signal for Head-End is ensured.

The first TV package in terrestrial digital format can be received on the following channels: channel 30 (zone Edinet), channel 22 (zone Mindresti), channel 28 (zone Trifesti), channel 31 (zone Straseni-Ivancea, Chisinau, Hincesti), channel 21 (zone Causeni-Tighina), channel 36 (zone Cahul-Cimislia, Comrat, Baimaclia, Leova).

Terrestrial digital television offers better image and sound quality than analog television, including the possibility to receive HD channels free of charge. Also, it provides reception of signal in less accessible zones, too.

Moldova is to finalize transition to terrestrial digital television by December 31, 2017.
