Communicators representing several non-governmental organizations shared their experience in the use of communication techniques with media at a training organized by the Independent Journalism Center (IJC) in the period of September 18-19. The organization of this event became possible due to the generous support of the American people, offered through the US Agency for International Development (USAID).

On the first day, the 15 participants discussed about their experience in communication with media, their difficulties with that, and how those difficulties can be solved. Journalist Vitalie Dogaru, the trainer of the course, spoke about the specific aspects of media and journalistic work, and explained how to present topics so that they be of interest to the press. In addition, special attention was given to techniques of writing press releases and to journalistic requirements to the lead, style, and structure of such materials. Participants also discussed about the stages of organization of press conferences – preparation, conduct, evaluation, and monitoring of results.

On the second day, communicators shared their experience in conducting of communication campaigns and of other activities aimed at informing the media and the larger public.

Participants engaged into discussions and suggested to each other solutions for correcting some errors in organizational communication, while Vitalie Dogaru encouraged participants to be flexible so as to overcome eventual challenges that might arise in the process of communication with the media.

Carolina Cicati, communicator for the Festival of Volunteers, said that the instruments and techniques she learned at this training will help her overcome barriers in communication with media and more efficiently promote the activities that she conducts.

In the period of July to September, 46 communicators participated in three trainings on communication organized by the IJC.

The event was organized as part of the Advocacy Campaigns Aimed at Improving Transparency of Media Ownership, Access to Information and promotion of EU values and integration, implemented by the IJC, which is, in its turn, part of the Moldova Partnerships for Sustainable Civil Society project, implemented by FHI 360.
