Instagram has registered the largest increase in users compared to the most popular social networks in Moldova. According to a report of the Gramatic Digital Communication Agency of Moldova, released on February 9, the number of Instagram accounts grew by 88%.

Thus, if in January 2017 the number of users on this social network was about 250,000, within a year it grew to 440,000. Most often, Instagram is used by women – about 270,000 (57.5%).

Radu Lisita, manager of the Gramatic Digital Communication Agency, believes that Instagram Stories (temporary photos and videos available for only 24 hours and presented as slideshows) will “explode” in 2018.

According to expert estimates, posts of the Stories kind will soon have higher visibility than posts in News Feed. Globally, about 300 million users browse Instagram Stories daily. The trend also reached Moldova, where about 270,000 people actively follow this section (57%).

However, the most used social network in Moldova is still Facebook, with 910,000 users (having grown 19.7% since the previous year). The second place is taken by Odnoklassniki, with 885,860 users (with the highest decrease, of 25.2%). Data on Odnoklassniki have been measured by gemiusAudience (through BATI [the Audit Bureau of Circulation and Internet of Moldova]), and they show the number of real users who visited the network in December 2017.

The social network VKontakte has also had a nonessential growth, reaching 153,000 users (source: Vivaki Moldova for January 2018).

Top websites in Moldova include the news sites Pro TV Chisinau and JurnalTV.md.

This is the third annual report published by the Gramatic Digital Communication Agency.
