The draft decision on the neutrality and freedom of the Internet and development of information society, which was to be examined at the plenary meeting of the Parliament on 18 July, has been transferred for the next parliamentary session.

According to omg.md, the president of the parliamentary committee on culture, education, research, youth, sport and mass media Chiril Lucinschi said that the examination of the draft had been postponed at the request of Democrat MPs, who motivated it by the need in more time for its discussion.

The declaration on neutrality and freedom of the Internet was approved a week ago by the parliamentary committee on mass media, and now it is to be examined by the plenum of the Parliament.

The declaration recognized the essential role of the Internet in promoting democratic values, ensuring transparency, efficiency and high performance of the government and the fundamental human right of access to information. The document confirms that the Internet is an important instrument for education and exercise of the freedom of expression.

After returning from vacation, MPs will have to express their will regarding maintenance of the openness and neutrality of the Internet, as well as the need to adjust the national legislation to the standards of the European Union.
