Publika TV channel and Publika.md news site announced they would stop covering the activities of the Party of Communists in Moldova until its leaders will present an appology for MP Iurie Muntean's threats to one of the media outlet's journalists.
“On behalf of hundreds of thousands of Publika TV viewers and hundreds of thousands of visitors of Publika.md, we demand respect from politicians, especially from those who receive their wages from taxpayers' money”, Publika announced in a public statement. The document also expressed hope that the leaders of the party would change their attitude towards the press.
MP Iurie Muntean threatened Publika TV reporter Dumitrita Ciuvaga on Tuesday, during Parliament's session. The journalist said the MP was not pleased with how the channel reported an incident that had previously occurred between MPs that morning. He thus threatened Dumitrita Ciuvaga telling her she would no longer work in press.
Media NGOs and the Broadcasting Coordinating Council (BCC) condemned Muntean’s actions and "hooligan" behaviour. NGOs also demanded the Permanent Bureau of the Parliament discuss the above-mentioned situation at one of its future meetings.
