The Russian-language weekly SP Balti returns in a printed version, one year after the decision to suspend publishing the newspaper due to economic reasons. At the same time, the editorial board of the regional publication from the northern region intends to launch a Romanian version of the news portal.

The director of the publication, Veaceslav Perunov, claims that SP Balti newspaper has re-emerged especially at the insistence of the elderly people who are not used to obtaining information online or cannot do that. “The new newspaper has fewer pages compared to the previous editions, only 12 pages, and will be printed in black and white, though used to be colored,” Perunov told us.

He mentioned that this year, the first newspaper was printed in 3 000 copies, stating that the announcement regarding the subscription was placed only on December 28, and, as a result, a large number of people failed to subscribe.

Veaceslav Perunov added that the financial resources for editing and printing the newspaper were obtained from a grant from the European Endowment for Democracy. Besides, in February, the editorial board intends to launch the Romanian version of the news website.

SP Balti newspaper was founded 27 years ago and was initially a publication for commercial advertisements. Later, it changed its format to an informative publication. In 2020, the team ceased issuing the printed version.
