Some media outlets used the “Last Bell”, the celebration of the end of the school year, not so much to cover the event itself, as to produce materials about the clothing of the school students. For example, Realitatea.tv and Pro TV Chisinau focused on the fact that some school leavers wore short skirts, high heels and fashionable accessories, and journalists used assessments, interpretations, labeling and sexist approach in their materials, thus violating some rules of journalists’ ethics.

“PHOTO GALLERY with this year’s sexy school leavers!” said the headline on realitatea.md. “Short skirts and dresses, heals of more than 10 cm, latest fashion handbags, expensive phones, jewelry and garish makeup. It would seem that we are talking about the things to wear to a club, but we are not. We are talking about some school girls in Chisinau, who attended the last bell ceremony today,” the source comments.

The school children’s clothing was also the focus of a Pro TV report, and in the video material we see how the cameraman intentionally shot a close-up of a school girl’s legs.

We shall remind that the Moldovan Guidelines of good journalistic practices on protection of minors in mass media recommend journalists to promote “positive topics emphasizing the child’s personality and achievements,” to avoid subjective approach to topics, not interpret facts and not make assumptions. In addition, the Guidelines require that “managers of media outlets and news editors must not accept for publication materials that fail to comply with professional and ethical requirements.”
