Prime TV, RTR Moldova, and Moldova 1 are asking for the highest prices for broadcasting electoral advertising at the presidential elections this fall, according to statements published on the website of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC). The most expensive TV appearance of electoral competitors will be on Prime TV, which asks for 3,000 euros per advertising minute. RTR Moldova comes second, with 1,000 euros per minute, followed by the public station Moldova 1, with 900 euros. On the other hand, the order of popularity of these stations is different: RTR Moldova is the first on the list, Prime TV is fourth, and Moldova 1 is fifth.

The price displayed by Prime TV this year is 1,000 euros higher than the one it requested in the electoral campaign for the general local elections and the new parliamentary elections of October last year. Although it set the highest tariff for the appearance of electoral competitors on TV, the station is not in the top of the audience ranking. According to the data of the TV MR MLD measurement for August, Prime TV ranked fourth, with a rating of 0.69%.

Publika TV is asking for 800 euros per one minute of electoral advertising in this election. In the electoral campaign of October last year, it was asking for 1,000 euros per minute, and in the February parliamentary elections, twice as much – 2,000 euros. According to the audience measurement, Publika TV ranked sixth last month, with a rating of 0.35%.

RTR Moldova is the second according to the price of electoral advertising – 1,000 euros per minute, and the first according to the audience rating – 1.59%. This station requested the same tariff during the campaign for the February 2019 elections. In the October 2019 elections, the price was 600 euros per minute.

In the case of Moldova 1, the tariff has not changed for over four years – 900 euros per minute. The station’s administration previously explained that the price is set not only on the basis of the rating, but also based on the coverage of the public television. The public broadcasting company Teleradio-Moldova representatives announced that they had received the CEC approval to collect revenues from electoral advertising.

PRO TV Chisinau comes next in the ranking, with a tariff of 840 euros, which remained unchanged compared to last year. According to audience data, this station ranks 14th with a rating of 0.16%. Canal 2 and Canal 3 each ask for 800 euros, practically half of what they requested in the parliamentary election campaign of February 2019. Canal 2 is seventh in the audience rating for August (0.35%), and Canal 3 is ninth (0.30%).

NTV Moldova, Exclusiv TV, and Primul în Moldova are asking for 500 euros per minute each. This is given that NTV Moldova and Primul în Moldova are second and third in the ranking of TV audiences, with a rating of 1.45% and 0.99%, respectively. Exclusiv TV is tenth (0.26%). In previous electoral campaigns, these stations displayed the same price. Accent TV, another station affiliated with the Party of Socialists, demands only 75 euros per minute of electoral advertising.

It will cost the candidates a little cheaper to appear on N4 (480 euros) and Jurnal TV (400 euros). TV8 is asking for 300 euros per minute in prime time and 150 euros in off time. The administration of this television station is waiting for the decision of the Constitutional Court, which is to examine an MP’s application regarding the legality of non-governmental organizations obtaining revenue from electoral advertising, as TV8 is founded by the NGO Media Alternativa.

TELEVIZIUNEA CENTRALĂ IS ASKING SIX TIMES LESS THAN IN THE ELECTORAL CAMPAIGN IN FEBRUARY 2019

Televiziunea Centrală is asking for 250 euros per one minute, while Orhei TV - 100 euros. In the electoral campaign of February 2019, Televiziunea Centrală was asking 6 times more – at that time, advertising cost 1,500 euros, and only in the electoral campaign of October 2019, the price dropped to 500 euros.

The ITV station is also asking for 250 euros, while the televisions Agro TV, Familia Domashniy, CTC Mega are asking for 200 euros per minute each.

In Moldova, there are currently 13 television stations with national coverage. All these televisions have the right to broadcast in the Digital Multiplex A. ProTV Chișinău has recently obtained the license, and Moldova 2 postponed broadcasting in the digital format. The Broadcasting Council is to examine and approve the statements of media service providers on editorial policy, including prices on advertising, at a meeting on September 17.
