Yesterday, 17 April, the Broadcasting Coordinating Council (BCC) granted a satellite broadcasting license to Realitatea TV, a television channel owned by Dumitru Tira, the former general director of Publika TV. The new channel will be launched this June.

Realitatea TV belongs to the HB Media SRL company, whose owner is Dumitru Tira. He claims that the Realitatea TV project fully belongs to him. “There is another company behind HB Media SRL, which is also one hundred percent mine. It is a personal project, in which I invested my own money and the money from outside. I want to try a new experience in management,” Tira mentioned.

He also said that Realitatea TV in Moldova has no connection with Realitatea TV in Romania, but that it will collaborate with the latter channel as well as with Romania TV and Antena 3.

Realitatea TV is intended to broadcast general and informative programs, with 54.7% of airtime being taken by domestic products. According to the channel’s general concept, informative and analytical programs will make 39% of airtime; documentaries, feature films and TV series – 36.9%; and cultural and educational programs – 1.19%.

During the presentation of the project, one of the BCC members, Nicolae Damaschin, reminded the former general director of Publika TV about the mistakes the channel made while managed by him. In his turn, another BCC member, Iurie Colesnic, was dissatisfied with the small share of airtime provided for cultural programs. Nevertheless, the BCC members unanimously voted for Realitatea TV.

From 2010 to 2013, Dumitru Tira was the general director of the Publika TV channel, which, according to the media, belongs to politician Vlad Plahotniuc. Last autumn, Tira left Publika TV, and he has recently launched six new websites on the media market: realitatea.md, golos.md, banii.md, stireata.md, topmedia.md and kankan.md.
