At a public meeting on Tuesday, September 29, the members of the Broadcasting Coordinating Council (BCC) voted unanimously for the decision to monitor the main newscasts of 13 broadcasters in terms of compliance with the legislation in the coverage of the September protests in Chisinau.  BCC Chairman Dinu Ciocan said that the institution formulated the proposal of monitoring after its representatives met with protesters’ representatives.
Thus, the public television, broadcasters with national coverage and other televisions will be subjected to monitoring by the BCC in terms of the coverage of protests. The monitoring period will be September 6 to 27, 2015.
In addition, broadcasters will have to report the amount of presence of the protesters’ leaders in the debates programs and other programs of the monitored televisions.
Protesters previously demanded dismissal of the BCC chairman for the reason that the current composition of the council does not ensure the citizens’ right to be informed.
Protesters from the Great National Assembly Square also organized protests at the offices of the public television Moldova 1. People say that the national television uses manipulation in the coverage of the events from the center of Chisinau.
