CEC Announced the First Signatories of the Code of Conduct on Media Coverage of the Electoral Campaign

TV channels TV 8 and Jurnal TV were the first signatories of the Code of Conduct on conducting and media coverage of the electoral campaign for the elections in the Moldovan Parliament and the Republican Consultative Referendum of 24 February 2019, according to a press release issued by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) on Thursday, 24 January.

Other two signatories are the election candidates – the Democratic Party of Moldova and the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova. The Electoral Bloc ACUM – DA Platform and PAS announced on social media that it also signed the Code of Conduct.

Code of Conduct on conducting and media coverage of the electoral campaign regulates the rules of conduct of election candidates/referendum participants and media representatives covering the campaign.
Every signatory in the electoral campaign will inform the voters correctly and objectively about the signatories and their political platforms, observe voters’ right to vote on the basis of their own beliefs and the received information, etc.

Every signatory will also observe the press freedom, including the right to monitor the way the elections are being organised and conducted.

According to the Code, all signatories will not create obstacles for journalists in exercising their official duties.
