Businessman and the vice-chairman of the Democratic Party Vladimir Plahotniuc announced he would be resigning from his office as Member of Parliament. According to various media reports, he is the owner of many media outlets in Moldova.

Vladimir Plahotniuc said that he will resign in order to continue a more "active and efficient" participation in the political life of the country.

Plahotniuc also added that he wanted to dispel the impression that he enjoyed parliamentary privileges. “I sincerely believe that MPs should not enjoy parliamentary immunity. Why a simple citizen, a journalist, for example, who criticizes a MP, is likely to be prosecuted for it – and a MP may defame anyone he wants to, and he would not be brought to responsibility?” – he stated.

Earlier press reported that Plahotniuc was the owner of such TV channels as Prime TV, Canal 3, MUZ TV, 2 PLUS and Publika TV, as well as of radio stations, and online resources. Most often about media ownership by Vladimir Plahotniuc was written in such periodicals as “Adevărul.md” and “Jurnal de Chisinau”. The newspaper “Adevărul” stressed that the TV channels Canal 3, Prime TV and the radio Prime FM were registered at the same office.
