The President of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Dodon, failed to sign the Audiovisual Media Services Code for the second time. The press secretary of the President, Maxim Lebedinschi, confirmed this for us.
On Wednesday, 28 November, Maxim Lebedinschi told Media-azi that ‘At the moment, the President did not promulgate it (i.e. the Code)’.
According to the law, the President of the country shall promulgate the law within two weeks at most from the date of its registration with the presidential administration.
Contacted by us, Natalia Zalisevschi, Senior Specialist at the presidential administration, said that the Audiovisual Media Services Code had reached the Presidency on 12 November.
On 14 November, Speaker Andrian Candu announced on his Facebook page that he had signed and sent the Audiovisual Media Services Code for promulgation.
According to the law, the President of the country can only once ask the Parliament to reconsider the law. If MPs keep the previously adopted decision, President is obliged to promulgate the law within two weeks at most from the date of its registration with the presidential administration.
Earlier, when President Igor Dodon refused to promulgate the laws for the second time, he was suspended by the Constitutional Court, and the laws were promulgated by Speaker Andrian Candu, who held the interim position of the former.
