Liliana Vițu has been proposed by the Government for the position of member of the Broadcasting Council

The Government has proposed Liliana Vițu for the position of member of the Broadcasting Council (BC). Her candidacy was supported by all members of the Government at the meeting of November 19, and next it is to be approved by the Parliament.

Liliana Vițu has over 20 years of experience in journalism and communication. In the last three years, she worked at the Swiss Cooperation Office in Moldova. She used to work as a correspondent for the BBC World Service, is known as the co-author of several reports by Freedom House and The Economist Intelligence Unit, and previously provided advice for the Thomson Reuters Foundation. She was also the spokeswoman for former Prime Minister Iurie Leanca. Between 2010 and 2012, she was the news director of Moldova 1 television.

Liliana Vițu holds a licentiate degree in journalism and communication and a master’s degree in Modern European Studies from the Metropolitan University of London.  Liliana Vițu is married to Mircea Eșanu, director of the Public Services Agency.

According to the new amendments to the Code of Audiovisual Media Services, the BC is composed of seven members: three proposed by the Parliament, one proposed by the Government and the Presidency each, and two proposed by civil society. All previous members of the BC were recently dismissed by the Parliament, after it rejected the BC’s activity report for 2020. On November 16, the parliamentary commission on the media started the selection of candidates proposed by civil society organizations to the position of member of the broadcasting regulator.
